From the back of every bottle
For ages,the wind has bent the treesand carved the stone of this island.
Since the nineteenth century,we have woven our vines by hand,close to the earth,where the wind cannot reach.
Two families, Mendrinos and Kafouros.
Kalliston is how we continue.
The beginning
1922
Our families have grown vines on Santorini since the nineteenth century. In 1922 Eleftherios Mendrinos made the first wine, in a canava in Vothonas.

The canava
We make our wine today in a canava in Messaria, built in the eighteen hundreds. The winery is the upper cave. A stair leads down to the cellar, where the wine rests at the temperature of the stone, and above it a terrace looks over the village.

2,000 to 10,000
bottles each year
We make a few thousand bottles a year, from parcels we know by name. Every vine is indigenous to the island and ungrafted.
